The NHS turns 75!

Teams-Background-NHS75_Artboard-2

5 July 2023 marked 75 years of the NHS. Since the NHS was founded in 1948, it has always innovated and adapted to meet the needs of each generation. The founding principles remain as relevant, and valued, today as they were 75 years ago. Find out how the NHS across NCL celebrated on our website.

The NHS' future at 75 - a gift from the Citizen's Assembly

As we celebrate 75 years of the NHS, we are not just looking back but also planning for our future. The NHS Assembly, a group made up of representatives from across the health and care communities in England, have developed a report which sets out what is most valuable about the NHS, what needs to change, and how we can continue fulfilling our mission of providing care that is free at the point of need.

Remote health monitoring in care homes benefits patients

During the pandemic, it was important to reduce the risks of outbreaks of COVID-19 among vulnerable residents so, as well as restricting family visits, care homes were keen to limit other visitors. A new way of monitoring the health of residents in care homes, which was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, is continuing to benefit people across North Central London. Find out more.

Introducing NHS Long Term Workforce Plan

Since the founding of the NHS 75 years ago, we have relied on the amazing skill and dedication of staff who came here from around the world – starting with the arrival of the Empire Windrush – and there will always be a place for them in the NHS. The NHS is nothing without our people. With commissioning and support from the Government, the NHS has developed and published the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan. A plan that aims to put staffing on a sustainable footing and improve patient care.

The workforce plan, the first in NHS history, has three priority areas.

  1. Train: Grow the workforce with the biggest recruitment drive in health service history.
  2. Retain: Embed the right culture and improve staff retention.
  3. Reform: Working and training differently.

You can read the full plan on the NHS website.

Vaccination news

Make sure your child is protected against measles this summer

FzT81HjXgAEBkIo

There is currently serious concern about the number of measles cases reported in London this year. Vaccinations against polio, measles, mumps, and rubella are the quickest and easiest ways to protect your child against the diseases of greatest concern. These two vaccination courses are proven both safe and effective.

Parents of children aged 1–11 in need of catch-up doses of these vaccines will be contacted by the NHS (either by a family GP or by one of our vaccination teams). Remember you can also contact your GP practice at any time to arrange the vaccinations you have missed.

You can find out what to expect at your visit on our websiteMake an appointment as soon as you can; we will keep your children safe together. Vaccination saves lives!
