May half term programme

Ballet Club gives young people access to professional artists, opportunities to develop their dance skills and the confidence to have an artistic voice in the work they co-create.

Calling all aspiring dancers aged 9 – 12 years, who live in Newham or Tower Hamlets and love to dance!

Join us for Ballet Club in the May half term, to dance and create new moves with professional artists. Be inspired and meet dancers and creatives at English National Ballet’s state of the art studios in Canning Town. Find out about life as a professional dancer, gain behind the scenes insights and create a choreography to perform to family and friends on the final day. This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss!

The programme is FREE OF CHARGE and is available for Newham or Tower Hamlets residents. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis.

Inspired by English National Ballet’s work, dancers will take part in a morning class exploring both ballet and contemporary technique followed by a session looking at English National Ballet repertoire. In the afternoon dancers take part in different workshops each day (previous workshops have included Wigs, Hair & Makeup for performance, costume department tour, Q&A with ENB Dancers) followed by a choreography session working towards an informal sharing to parents, guardians and carers on the final day.

Dates and Times

Tuesday 28 – Friday 31 May 2024
9.30am – 3.30pm

On the final day parents, carers and guardians are invited to watch a sharing from 2.30pm.

Who can book

Ballet Club is a free programme open to children living in Newham or Tower Hamlets aged 9 – 12 years. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Dancers are encouraged to commit to the full week of activity to gain the most benefits.

For further information about this programme, please contact engagement@ballet.org.uk.

What to wear

*Please wear clothing you can move in: something stretchy is ideal and not too loose, so that you don’t get tangled up. Participants should wear soft dance slippers or dance in bare feet for class (no socks for safety reasons). All jewellery should be removed before class and we recommend that long hair is secured away from the face.

Ballet Club is generously supported by Newham Council.
