Exploring Sustainability beyond the classroom!

A number of our learners studying “Sustainability for every day” had a fantastic opportunity to explore a live site in partnership with Lendlease.

Learners learnt more about sustainability and the economic growth and potential for Silvertown. From sustainable offices, homes and businesses, our learners applied their skills from the classroom to everyday life!

After a full site tour where learners had the opportunity to wear a full PPE kit, certificates for completion of their course were presented by Councillor Caroline Adaja.

“The programme was very interesting and I’m glad we had this opportunity” Aroj Razzaq Din Naz

“I’ve learnt a lot about sustainability throughout my 6 week programme with ONLS and today has been an amazing opportunity” Spasivov Mikchev

Well done to all learners on the completion of your course!

Celebrating International Mother Language Day

Our Newham Learning & Skills celebrating Diversity!

International Mother Language Day is a day celebrated across the world to mark and promote multilinguals’.

This year, our ESOL learners got together across some of our centres, Beckton Globe, Priory Park, Forest Gate Learning Zone and Gainsborough Learning Centre to celebrate each language our learners speak and showcase their amazing talent.

Our learners embraced the occasion with enthusiasm, engaging in various activities that highlighted the beauty of their native languages. The celebration included, singing in Bengali, speeches in Romanian, greetings in different languages, posters and creative presentations. Not to forget the cultural food! Well done to all learners who were involved.

Learner Success Stories

Babacar came to England as a refugee with his wife and two children. His aim was to develop new skills that would help him gain work in the future.

Babacar started his Cake Decorating course with no previous skills, but this did not stop him from progressing. He successfully completed the NCFE Creative Crafts Cake Decorating course and achieved his Level 2 qualification. The skills and training that he has gained have enabled him to help others in his community by making baked goods for group meetings and special events.

His ultimate goal is to have his own bakery specialising in making cakes and biscuits for people with food allergies.
