Business Finance Week 2024: Access to Finance for Businesses


Identifying the right type of funding is everything for start-ups and entrepreneurs. An exciting event that promises to shed light on the latest trends, possibilities, and challenges facing business finance is the British Business Bank's Business Finance Week 2024. Running from September 24 to 3 October the British Business Bank will offer SMEs expert advice and free resources including regional in-person events, webinars and more. For ease we have listed some of these support under our events and webinar section. 


To mark this year's Business Finance Week campaign we're hosting 'Access to Finance for Businesses' event in collaboration with Barclays and several other partners including Newham Chamber of Commerce, Funding Bay and London Property Services. This is intended to assist you in finding useful information, network with financial professionals, and learn about the wide range of financing choices that may be available to support your expansion in Newham.


The event will feature presentations from individual exhibitors regarding the services they offer to businesses, followed by the opportunity to network, collaborate, and ask questions. Also, light refreshments will be offered, thanks to the sponsorship of Caloroso Bakery and Unit 6 Café.

Strategies for Success: Support for Businesses Impacted by Roadworks and Construction


Our Newham Business & Enterprise is teaming up with London Business Partnership to deliver a FREE business rates workshop for anyone affected by ongoing construction and roadwork projects! 


Joining us is speaker, Steve Hile of Gerald Eve. Steve has over 25 years’ experience in general valuation work throughout the UK. He will be covering topics including: 

  • Business rates fundamentals
  • How business rates are calculated
  • How to challenge your business rate bill 
  • Current rate relief schemes and how to apply
  • Material Change in Circumstances (MCC) relief for those affected by works

The Council is thrilled to announce the launch of its Black History Month 2024 programme, themed ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, where a number of special events, including the Black Pound Market, will celebrate and spotlight Black business owners and entrepreneurs in Newham.

Tate Lyle’s Local Fund


Tate & Lyle's Local Fund, a partnership between Tate & Lyle Sugars and the Council, is set to return with a £50,000 grant pot, aiming to support projects fostering safe, prosperous, and healthy local communities in Newham.


An in-person Grant Surgery session with the funders will take place on Monday 14 October at Startford Library designed to offer support to not-for-profit organisations seeking funding.
